Diana MartinOur team believes that the nature of the leading edge of the consulting world is changing.  We bring expertise, nimbleness, creativity, focus, responsiveness, effective working relationships, the ability to engage the private sector, and dedication to the relationship.  Our smaller size means that we are less burdened, more problem solving and inventive, and more cost-efficient. Since we are not limited by the need to keep staff billable, we can bring the best practitioners in the industry to provide specialized expertise to the project.  The client benefits from our knowledge of and access to the experts without the burden of high overhead rates.

We believe each member of our group to be exceptional listeners and able to integrate what we hear from project leadership regarding goals and mission with on-the-ground experience, expertise, trends and applications to obtain the best possible outcome.

Each major transportation and infrastructure project is unique.  Our method is to bring critical thinking and problem-solving capability, combined with practical experience, to the design of a customized project approach.  We are not shy about application of creativity as a front-line tool.

A customized project approach assesses the current community climate, including leadership and commitment, and the implementation agency’s capacities and capabilities; and it designs a strategy to complement strengths and supplement where gaps are identified.  Our strong commitment to interest-based problem resolution and experience with contentious projects enables us to create effective organizational structures for complex, multi-jurisdictional, multi-modal, and multi-disciplinary projects.

The assessment of capacity and commitment extends beyond the implementing agency to each of the participating and cooperating agencies.  Early identification of agency limitations to participation allows development of a realistic project plan and consideration of supplemental staff positions.  Our goal is early evaluation of and agreement on roles, expectations, decision-making processes, operating procedures, communication protocols, programmatic approaches, and dispute resolution, resulting in a simple, workable governance document that guides the project development process.

Identification of data needs and the selection of the most valuable tools for managing project information is a critical component of project approach.  Appropriate technical architecture is important to collaboration and information sharing, efficiently gathers and manages information, and maintains a defensible project record.

One of the most critical elements in transportation planning and financing is an understanding of who benefits and who pays.  But with this complexity comes opportunity.  When you ask the right questions about transportation, you begin to identify how best to pay for it as well. This includes bringing the private sector and market forces to the solution side of the ledger.  New economic activity can defray costs of new roads, or new transit systems, which might otherwise forever be in the waiting line for federal funds.  However, it takes planning, political will and discipline.

Our team brings together the capabilities, creativity, and commitment necessary to help communities find sustainable solutions to seemingly intractable transportation challenges.
